Amansara Hotel

Part: Home - Cambodia hotels

Location: Cambodia, Siem Reap
Address: 262 Krom 8, Phum Beong Don Pa, Khum Slar Kram, Siem Reap, 17000 Cambodia
Star rate: 5 star

Description

The name Amansara derives from the twinning of the word aman (Sanskrit for peace) and apsara (the heavenly nymphs of ancient Hindu texts who emerged from the primordial churning of the oceans with the power to change their form at will and to bestow luck on those they favoured). The resort is located in Siem Reap, the cultural capital of Cambodia.

The enclave was once the guest villa of King Norodom Sihanouk. It has been transformed into a 24-suite retreat that provides an ideal base for exploring the temples of Angkor and the sophisticated culture of the Khmer civilisation. The Amansara Hotel has the inviting ambience of a gracious home and is set in a private garden compound with mature, shade trees.

Amansara is set in its own established gardens and entry is via a drive that leads to the porte-cochere that opens to a circular reception. A covered walkway leads to a courtyard that contains the swimming pool with sun-beds and a lounging alcove. Adjacent to this is the Dining Room with its high ceiling and garden outlook. The Library is nearby and provides a variety of books, magazines, newspaper and audio CDs. A small retail gallery offers a range of locally produced handicrafts. Beyond the swimming pool is a grassed courtyard around which most of the Aman suites are located.

Located close to the Dining Room is the Library that provides a range of coffee table books, travel guides, novels, magazines and daily newspapers. Also on offer are a range of audio CDs, board games and a comprehensive collection of reference books on the Angkor temples and Khmer civilisation. Seating is provided on an extensive banquette or at reading tables and chairs. The Library is also fitted with a home theatre system that can be used for viewing audio-visual presentations and documentaries.

About Siem Reap:

Once a sleepy town, Siem Reap is now the base for visitors to Angkor, with international hotels and growing tourist facilities. Close by is the charming Tonle Sap - (Great lake) fed by the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers. Most lours of the local area, include a trip to the fishing villages around the lake as well the Angkor ruins. There are also multi-country heritage tours which include river cruises on the Mekong from Cambodia to Vietnam, stopping for several days to explore Angkor.

Siem Reap is your starting point for the World Heritage site of Angkor. Many hotels are located in the town of Siem Reap, which is just a short journey from the site. Close by is tranquil Tonle Sap Lake.
