About Khong
Island:
Located in Sii
Pan Don area (4,000 islands) where the Mekong river spreads to a
width of up to 14 kilometres during the rainy season, forming
hundreds of islands and islets. Khong Island or Don Khong is the
largest island in the area offering the serene monasteries and
one of the most scenic areas in Laos. Attractions include
waterfalls - some of the biggest in Southeast Asia, Irrawaddy
dolphins and local villages.
 The
province of Champasak is home to one of Asia's great, but least
visited temples, Wat Phu. The province also houses much of the
Bolaven Plateau, an area that is home to a number of ethnic
minorities. To the south is Si Pan Don (four thousand islands),
where the Mekong reaches up to 14km wide during the rainy season
and the Khone Phapeng Falls.
