The Pilgrimage
Village, Hue New on the scene and a welcome escape from the drab

a garden setting surrounding a fine-dining pavilion. Some 5km (3
miles) southeast of the town center on the way to the royal
tombs and temples, Pilgrimage Village is one of the only
independently owned and operated hotels in the area, which
explains the laid-back feel and high service standard.
Rooms are large with terra-cotta tile floors; oversize, modern,
dark wood furnishings; and walls painted in rich tones of blue
and earth. All rooms have balconies and faux fireplaces,
creating a cozy lodgelike ambience.
The small central pool is quite inviting, and the manicured
grounds are immaculate. The tastefully decorated restaurant,
Junrei, is the largest traditional wooden house in central
Vietnam and serves fine Vietnamese fare. Beneath Junrei is a
breakfast area, which in the evening becomes a cozy grotto bar
with a pool table and free Internet access.
A garden area at the resort's entry is lined with traditional
buildings housing craftspeople hard at work producing fine
embroidery, ceramics, and woodcarving that's for sale in some
fun little shops. Regular shuttles run to the downtown area, and
the very friendly staff can help arrange thoughtful, informative
tours to nearby temples and imperial tombs.
The Pilgrimage Village offers a harmonious combination between
natural environment and local culture. It is a place where
delicious meals, sound sleep, and peaceful life of quiet
countryside will combine to refresh your spirits and help you
forget all troubles of life.
