Description :

 

Dien Bien Phu is a beautiful and romantic valley(16km in length, 9 km in width) surrounded with high mountains, forests and located in the northwest of Vietnam, near border between Lao and Vietnam, the French colonist set it up to be a big stronghold against Vietminh army during 1945, It was considered undefeatable by the French colonist! But 7th May 1954 the Vietminh army with the leadership of Ho Chi Minh defeated the French colonist in here, moving to final agreement; the French withdrew from Vietnam. Even experienced long time in war with lots of destructions, Dien Bien Phu now is covered with new face, developing and also mountains , hills are already covered with green color again; many relics, remnants still left that's why It's  worth of a visit back to ex-battle field.

 

Itinerary in details:

Day 1. Hanoi - Mai Chau - Son La.

Pick up from your hotel in Hanoi at 8 am , heading west of Hanoi to Hoa Binh province, getting through hilly mountains , after a 3 hour driving we move into Mai Chau - a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains, forests and scattered with pretty villages inhabited by the Thai ethnic minority people. Stop here for a rest, take a walk around the village, witness their daily life, enjoy the rural natural beauty . Have lunch with local cuisines in their traditional house on stilt.

After lunch we go on our trip to Son La, driving northwest direction , getting through Moc Chau town with milky cow farms, breathtaking scenery, ethnic minority people walking along the road - opportunity for photos!

On arrival late afternoon, check in hotel .Overnight in Son La. (L)

Day 2. Son La - Dien Bien Phu.

After breakfast in hotel we visit the historic sites in Son La including: Son La prison where the French colonist used to imprison the Vietnamese revolutionist and patriots, a few prisoners were the Vietnam revolutionary leaders , also imprisoned here, such as : Hero To Hieu...then take a look into Son La Museum of  ethnology to see all hill tribe groups, their diversity of tradition, customs, cultures ....

Driving to Dien Bien Phu today, we will pass one of the highest pass in Vietnam- Pha Din pass ( Approximately 2000 m above sea level ,32 km in length). Stop on the top of Pha Din pass, enjoying spectacular scenery  , taking photos, visiting the colorful Red Mong ethnic people living there. Have lunch in Tuan Giao town.

On arrival afternoon , check in Hotel. At leisure swimming in hotel swimming pool. Overnight in Dien Bien Phu. (B/L).

Day 3. Dien Bien Phu - sightseeing.

Today we take a visit to famous historic battle sites: Museum of Dien Bien Phu (display the objects, some war remnants , tanks, artillery...relevant to the war against French colonist ), Hill A1, Revolutionary Heroes' Cemetery,  de Castries' Bunker, Muong Thanh bridge , and the airport. Afternoon take a driving ride to villages in valley for a visit to Thai people . At leisure .Overnight in Dien Bien Phu. (B/L)

Day 4. Dien Bien Phu - fly to Hanoi.

At leisure until transfer to the airport for flight (1hour)back to Hanoi. End of services. (B)
